Real-World Financial Analysis Skills

We've designed this program after working with dozens of aspiring analysts who struggled to connect textbook theory with actual company evaluation. The gap between academic knowledge and practical application is significant—and that's what we address here.

You'll work through actual financial statements from Australian companies, analyzing balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow documents. We focus on understanding what the numbers reveal about business health, competitive position, and growth potential.

Program Structure & Commitment

Classes run Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM, with monthly Saturday workshops for deeper case analysis. The autumn 2025 cohort begins September 9th and concludes March 2026. Expect around 8-10 hours weekly including coursework.

Past participants often mention that the case study approach was challenging but invaluable. You'll present analyses to the group, defend your conclusions, and learn to spot the weaknesses in your own reasoning—skills that matter far more than memorizing formulas.

Six-Month Learning Journey

Each phase builds on previous knowledge while introducing new analytical frameworks. We move from foundational concepts to complex valuation methodologies, with continuous practice on real company data.

1

Financial Statement Foundations

Understanding what financial statements actually tell you requires going beyond the numbers themselves. We examine how accounting choices affect reported results and what adjustments analysts make to see the real picture.

  • Reading balance sheets with a critical eye
  • Income statement analysis and earnings quality
  • Cash flow statements and working capital dynamics
  • Common accounting adjustments and red flags
2

Ratio Analysis & Industry Context

Ratios mean nothing without context. A 15% profit margin might be excellent in retail but concerning in software. You'll learn which metrics matter for different business models and how to benchmark properly.

  • Profitability metrics across industries
  • Liquidity and solvency assessment
  • Efficiency ratios and operational insight
  • Return on capital and value creation
3

Business Model Evaluation

Some of the most critical analysis happens before you even look at numbers. Understanding how a company makes money, who its customers are, and what threatens its competitive position shapes everything else.

  • Competitive advantage assessment
  • Revenue model sustainability
  • Market position and pricing power
  • Management quality evaluation
4

Valuation Methodologies

Valuation is part science, part informed judgment. We cover multiple approaches—from discounted cash flow to comparable company analysis—and when each method makes sense to apply.

  • Discounted cash flow modeling fundamentals
  • Comparable company valuation techniques
  • Precedent transaction analysis
  • Asset-based and sum-of-parts approaches
5

Sector-Specific Analysis

Analyzing a bank requires completely different skills than evaluating a mining company. This phase explores the unique characteristics and metrics relevant to major sectors in the Australian market.

  • Financial services analysis approaches
  • Resources and commodity-linked businesses
  • Real estate and property trusts
  • Technology and growth companies
6

Comprehensive Case Studies

The final phase involves complete company analyses from scratch. You'll prepare written reports and present recommendations, defending your conclusions against challenging questions—just like in professional settings.

  • Full company analysis projects
  • Written report preparation
  • Presentation and defense of conclusions
  • Peer review and feedback integration
